Classic Homemade Chili
Ingredients:
-
1 lb ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)
-
1 small onion, diced
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
-
1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
-
1 cup beef or vegetable broth
-
2 tbsp tomato paste
-
1 tbsp chili powder
-
1 tsp cumin
-
1 tsp smoked paprika
-
½ tsp salt
-
¼ tsp black pepper
-
Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, or tortilla chips
Instructions:
-
Cook the Meat: In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
-
Sauté Aromatics: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and the onion is translucent.
-
Combine Ingredients: Stir in the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, broth, tomato paste, and all the spices. Mix well to combine.
-
Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together.
-
Serve: Ladle the chili into bowls and add your favorite toppings. Enjoy with a side of crusty bread or crackers for a complete meal!
