Spring has sprung and all the cleaning is done, now it’s time to spruce up your space. Many renters struggle with creating a space that feels like home and represents YOU. Apartment living can oftentimes come with lackluster painted walls, ugly carpet, or lack of natural light, not to mention is usually a temporary living situation depending on the person. If you’re looking for ways to customize your home and some great tips to spruce things up you’ll want to keep scrolling!
1. Hang artwork on the wall
Adding wall décor such as photos of friends and family, colorful and unique pieces of art, or even mirrors can instantly change the atmosphere in your space. You can find amazing items at thrift stores or online marketplaces, or even home décor stores often sell trendy and inexpensive art, or if you’re really looking to be creative try painting or drawing something of your own to hang up. Putting up photos and artwork allows you to tell a story and exhibit your own personal style. Don’t be afraid to put nails in the wall, that’s what spackling is for, and if you are worried about making too many holes, command strips are amazing!
2. Temporary wall treatments
As a renter if you aren’t able to paint, consider temporary wall treatments for an accent wall such as vinyl decals, removable wallpaper, or even fabric for walls. Vinyl decals can come in a variety of options such as polka dots, stripes and you can even get custom text decals. This is a great way to add color and pattern into your space. The best part.. it’s temporary and can easily peel right off!
3. Add plants
Plants are an awesome way to breathe life back into a room… literally. They are a great addition to any space with natural color and the perfect resting point for your eyes. Play around with cool pots to include fun patterns and colors, or keep it simple and use plain neutral color. If you don’t have the desire to take care of a plant there are plenty of fake plants that look as if they could be real sold for cheap prices at most home décor stores!
5. Include rugs
You can include fun and funky or simple and neutral rugs to spruce up any space, kitchens, hallways, bathrooms, and living rooms! Especially if the flooring in your rental is less than desirable. This small addition is an easy way to make a big impact on any space. A new welcome mat can even bring you joy before stepping into your home.
6. Hide what you don’t like
You can spruce up your space but hiding the clutter! Hide wires and cords under rugs or behind curtains. If you have a small apartment with limited storage space try hiding items under your bed, you can buy totes that are designed to fit small space beneath your bed to keep your things organized. Get creative with storage solutions, utilize cute woven baskets to organize and hide clutter, or consider storage cubes. This is sure to make a big impact on decluttering your home!
Small things can make a big impact whether you’re in a rental home, or forever home. There’s no need to spend a ton of money or even time, with little effort and some creativity you can create a space full of character that represents YOU. Create a space where you will enjoy all of the time you spend there no matter how long or short.
